YAZCONSULT Supporting the Governmental Participatory Supervising Committee

YAZCONSULT law firm, Lebanon, was appointed on behalf of the Lebanese Council of Ministers, as legal advisor to the Participatory Supervising Committee established by the Lebanese Council of Ministers to resolve issues related to cement companies operating in Lebanon.

Mandated to protect public health, the Committee’s first task was successfully accomplished thanks to its adoption of a scientific-academic best practices approach, that wil help change the face of the Lebanese cement industry, as it prioritizes human safety and wellbeing above all else.

The photos below are taken in the governmental palace, where the Council of Ministers amended and ratified Resolution 1/8 pertaining to the marginal emissions ratios of air pollutants – thereby modifying the previous 2001 ratio which had not considered air quality requirements that ensure the protection of human health.

After two decades of inactivity on the matter, this achievement comes as a unique initiative as civil society members, academics, industrial experts, and politicians joined hands to safeguard and protect human health first.

A lot of work remains to be done, but there is much hope as parties involved approach the issue with a spirit of mutual cooperation. Once the first step is carried forward, it will help reduce emission levels significantly, thereby considerably purifying the air in affected regions.
