Through a multifaceted approach, YAZCONSULT has spearheaded projects targeting critical areas such as migrant workers’ rights, advocating for the abolition of the kafala system, gender laws, and juvenile justice reform. Each project underscores YAZCONSULT’s commitment to fostering equitable legal frameworks that uphold the dignity and rights of all human beings.
Within the framework of the MIRA project (Migrant Rights and Advocacy), a collaborative consortium consisting of Caritas Lebanon, Kafa, and Amel organizations has been established to champion the protection and defense of migrant workers’ human rights in Lebanon, with a particular focus on female domestic workers. Central to this endeavor is the collective effort to advocate for the abolition of the Kafala system. This initiative is funded by the European Union and coordinated by Caritas Austria.
In alignment with these goals, Caritas Lebanon has enlisted the expertise of YAZCONSULT as the Consultant – Legal Expert to actively contribute to round table discussions and working group sessions dedicated to advancing migrant rights and advocating for the eradication of the Kafala system.
As the appointed Consultant – Legal Expert, YAZCONSULT undertook the following key responsibilities:
- Producing Advocacy Papers: Generated recommendation papers designed to serve as effective advocacy tools for engaging stakeholders post-round table meetings.
- Participating in Meetings: Attended round table meetings and working group sessions. Offered expert insights on migrant rights in Lebanon, access to justice, and strategic pathways for Kafala abolition.
- Facilitating Discussions: Took a leading role in guiding discussions focusing on topics pertinent to migrants’ rights, and the necessary steps for dismantling the Kafala system.
- Engaging in Coordination Efforts: Actively participated in coordination meetings with project partners, providing comprehensive reports to Caritas Lebanon on the outcomes and progress of such engagements.
- Developing Actionable Recommendations: Compiled a list of recommendations/measures arising from the discussions held within meetings. Presented these findings in a clear and actionable format to Caritas Lebanon for further consideration and implementation.
